An Excruciatingly Ordinary Toy Theater Show

Two shows only!
August 25th, 7:30pm
September 1st, 7:30pm

In this darkly funny live-action comic book, cameras zip through tiny illustrated worlds made visible through real-time projection. A lonely puppeteer stalks the child of two notorious celebrities, a three-foot ghost plagues an eight-year-old boy’s fragile psyche, and an opera-singing landlord refuses to return a security deposit. The show is supported in part by The Jim Henson Foundation. Recently, the show received Outstanding Puppet Show at the San Diego Fringe Festival.

Tickets are $15 and can be purchased online at www.gottavan.org.

Miniature Curiosa requests your attendance at the unveiling of The Toy Theater Parlor. Victorian families looked no further than their parlor rooms for theatrical entertainment. Mother and Father would swoon as Tiny Tim dazzled his audiences with his miniature paper sets. This is not that. This is the cabinet of curiosity inside your grandpa’s basement for an evening of paper, technology, and sensational storytelling.

Moon City: An Ahistoric Tale Regarding a Historic Man in a Florida Swamp

Miniature Curiosa is pleased to bring you their latest spectacle about a man who's got dreams so big they can only fit in the swamp. Moon City: An Ahistoric Tale Regarding a Historic Man in a Florida Swamp promises puppets, precariously hung light bulbs, and, of course, an entire miniature amusement park in less than ten-feet of space. In preparation for this swampland fantasy, we’d like to include a brief statement given at the ground-breaking ceremony by the mayor of Moon City himself, Mr. Frederick Ingersoll:

“Imagine you’re walking - no, make that trudging through the Florida swamp, the mud tickling your ankles after a long day of work, a long day of the same ole thing as yesterday. And suddenly, you are surrounded by the radiating light of the moon. But it’s not just any moon. It’s not even your moon. It’s a moon that’s brighter than any moon you’ve ever seen and any moon you’re likely to see again, unless you come back tomorrow. And I do hope you come back. Welcome to Moon City."

Moon City, An Ahistoric Tale Regarding a Historic Man in a Florida Swamp is the second play in Miniature Curiosa’s trilogy of plays about a man named Frederick Ingersoll. Not a piece of this play is fact; rather the entire romp is a make believe marvel regarding a man named Frederick.

This play kicks off Miniature Curiosa's 5 Cities, 5 Plays, 555 Days. This project promises to premiere five new plays in five different cities over the course of a year and a half.

It Was the Coldest Year

During The Pittsburgh Cultural Trust's 2013 First Night extravaganza, Miniature Curiosa will present It Was the Coldest Year at Catholic Charities (at 9th Street & Liberty). The show is 15 minutes long and will play at:

6:30, 7:00, 7:30, 8:00, 8:30, 9:00, 9:30, 10:00, and 10:30.

It Was the Coldest Year

A miniature city is created from medicine cabinets, desk lamps, Victorian dollhouses, and repurposed junk. Inside, amongst the tiny copper-wire trees and within the cramped bedrooms of the pocket-sized residents, puppeteer Zach Dorn reveals the miniature city’s hidden stories. Equipped with video technology, Dorn sends digital cameras through the cardboard streets, projecting puppet performances for children and adults alike. This is It Was the Coldest Year, an immersive one-of-a-kind puppet spectacle.

Birds of America

Dr. Douglas Irene is here to present his lecture entitled, Birds of America, A Brief description of the Birds of America, created by Dr. Douglas Irene. Please do not confuse this with a similarly titled body of work by a certain Audubon, for this lecture is filled with anecdotes and photographs of birds from Dr. Irene’s personal collection. Don’t mind the woman in the photos. That’s merely Margaret, Dr. Douglas Irene’s wife. Douglas and Margaret used to live in a house at the top of a lonely cliff against the soundtrack of a raging sea. Despite their distance from the rest of the world, Margaret never could escape the watchful eye of those birds of America. Poor Margaret.

Cameras soar through miniature scenery and frightful dreamscapes of Birds of America as Miniature Curiosa takes you on a multimedia exploration into scale and suspense.
